Relocated from Texas to New Mexico in 1976, it was there in the Land of Enchantment that Denise Imke found both the opportunity and inspiration to pursue her life long interest in art.  Exploring various mediums such as watercolor, pastel, pen & ink and silversmithing, Denise has always and inevitaly returned to her first love - that of Oil painting.

While working in several different genres from detailed portraiture to impressionist landscape, the classic still life remains her favorite.

After completing her early training at the college level and the Scottsdale Artist’s School, Denise has studied with numerous national and internationally recognized artists in a variety of workshops all across the southwest.

Denise is an associate member of Oil Painters of America and a two time winner of the Shirl Smithson Scholarship award.

Perhaps the most beautiful thing about art is that its appeal, meaning, and importance are completely different for everyone.  As an artist I hope to demonstrate that there is something appealing to be found even in the most ordinary subject; something meaningful, in that it may evoke a memory or suggest a relationship: and most of all that art becomes important in everyone's life, whether it brings a smile, warms the heart, provokes thought or brings a measure of peace.
